Good progress is being made with Alfington’s project to create a dead hedge in the churchyard.
A dead hedge (or dry hedge) provides major ecological benefits by turning cut green waste into a vital wildlife habitat and slowly enriching the soil as the wood decomposes. It is hoped the hedge will provide shelter for songbirds, small mammals and habitat for a range of insects.
Meanwhile, local villagers are getting involved helping out with some gentle autumn trimming of the living hedges.
