Getting married is a significant moment in anyone's life
Not everyone has a Christian marriage service in church but we know that making a Civil Partnership or having a Civil Wedding is one of the most important occasions in life.
Blessings after marriage
Many couples choose to celebrate their marriage in more than one way. After a civil ceremony – whether held at a registry office, outdoors, or in another meaningful place – some couples long for a moment of prayer, blessing, and thanksgiving within the life of the church.
Prayers are open to heterosexual and same‑sex couples, and to people of every background, story, and stage of faith. You do not need to be regular churchgoers. You do not need to have all the answers. You simply need a desire to mark your marriage with gratitude, hope, and blessing.

Options on offer
For heterosexual couples we use the service of Blessing after Civil Marriage and for same-sex couples we use the Prayers of Love and Faith.
The Blessing after Civil Marriage can be a stand-alone service, but the Prayers of Love and Faith must be used as part of a Sunday service.
What matters most is that the prayers reflect who you are as a couple and honours the love you share.
At its heart, this is a moment of welcome: a chance recognise the beauty of a commitment freely made. We stand with you, pray for you, and celebrate the life you are building together.
If you’d like to explore this further, we’re always happy to talk through possibilities and help shape your service.

Renewal of vows
The Church also has a service for the renewal of vows, which some couples choose to use at significant milestones in their married life.
